OUR STORY

I have had a love affair with textiles for as long as I can remember. They have become a part of my life, part of who I am. I relish the color, the texture, the warp and the weft. The components of fabric both intrigue and excite me. The possibilities are intoxicating. My mother and I shared the same love for fabric, she was a talented seamstress and dressmaker. I invariably coveted the fabrics that she brought home. As I grew older I began to accompany my mom on her many trips to the fabric store. I would drift through the isles, losing my surroundings with each and every bolt –– it was as if I were dreaming. These trips not only taught me the rudiments of fabric but I began to learn about myself and who I was to become. I eventually learned to sew and started to create my own clothes. I began to understand how to work with all kinds of fabrics. I even mastered the skills that were needed to become a seamstress.  After earning my degree in fashion design, I landed in NYC where I worked for several different apparel companies. I was surrounded by culture, design, and an abounding amount of beautiful fabrics. From there I continued to follow my dreams, all strung together by the thread that is my love of fabric.

OUR FABRICS

It was in 2019 Red Thread began to unfold. I traveled to India with a friend, and my heart and soul have forever been changed. When I look back on this trip, I can still feel the kindness and warmth of the people that we met along the way, the blaze of color that I saw and felt, and the unforgettable scents and flavors of the food. It was as if my senses had woken up for the first time – this was an experience of a lifetime. Our trip to Jaipur is where the magic began. There were textiles everywhere. We were surrounded by brilliant colors and textures, just like my trips to the fabric store – I was in heaven. From hand-blocking to indigo dying, Jaipur is known for its textile traditions. Before I knew it I was putting together a collection of clothing. Although not planned it was something that I had always dreamed about and it all came about so organically. The textile specialists spent hours with us showing us bolt after bolt of fabric. They had the capability to make anything that we dreamed up, the possibilities were endless. After we made our selections they had samples made for us immediately and had them hand delivered to our hotel room that evening. I was able to evaluate the finished product – the fit, the quality, and the craftsmanship – before I placed an order. Their standards are high and their work is perfection, I was beyond impressed. The next day I committed to a small collection and thus the beginning of Red Thread. I am so grateful for the connections that I made and the people that I met. Without them, none of this would be possible. We are so excited to bring the beauty of Jaipur and its quality fabrics to you through Red Thread.
